'Our Family Hobby'

We began collecting Kenyan Sand Boas initially as a way to conquer our fear of snakes. Then we discovered that the whole family enjoyed the care and handling of Kenyans. It has exploded from there. We like this particular breed of snakes because we have a younger family. These East African Sand Boas are smaller, slower than the other breeds of snakes available, easy to care for and relatively new to the US pet trade with new morphs being introduced every year.

Some of Our Holdback Anerythristic Kenyan Sand Boas

After the Atlanta show we went by Jeff Holloway's home and purchased a couple real nice anerythristic Kenyan Sand Boas for our breeding program. This is a pair of 2009 anerys that are brother and sister to his super reduced dodoma anery. Based on the parents 'standard' anery patterning, and its repeatability, it appears it may be a genetic trait and not the typical line bred traits that we see with the intensified color such as High Oranges or reduced patterned Kenyans. The female is on the left and the male is on the right.

Here's a huge 2008 female Jeff had heldback but let us buy...she is the full older sister to the pair above
This is another picture of her

We've started the process of getting ready for the Hamburg, PA show on August 7th, we will be next to Frank from Cold Blooded Novelties http://www.coldblooded-novelties.com/ & Justin McBreyer Reptiles http://www.mcbreyerreptiles.com/ . Come see us, Mark@LHALegal.com

We sold most of our Kenyans that we had converted to frozen-thawed pinkies this weekend at the http://www.dixiereptileshow.com/ . If you can't find live pinkies in your area and have to have a snake eating frozen-thawed these are the anery females, anery males and a normal female, that I have available.

Dixie Reptile Show Today

We thank everyone who came by and chatted with us today. Thank you for everyone who purchased a snake today after speaking to us during previous shows. We had a good time showing off some real nice sand boas, if you are some of the folks who have mentioned how much they like the normals stripes I hate to tell you, but I only have two male stripes eating frozen fuzzies right now.

WOW, you really can tell how thrilled I was to be having my picture taken at 8:45 in the morning...

We brought the kids up to 'help' us set up and Jennifer's Aunt Vonnette and Uncle Ed who live near by picked them up and chased them for the rest of the day. Thanks for your help and we'll check first thing Monday if our homeowners covers that little accident.

It was real busy in the morning at the http://www.dixiereptileshow.com/ but slow up by 2 pm. We saw a lot of new vendors like these guys from Prattville, AL set up next to us. If you are reading this email me Mark@LHALegal.com I never caught your name or picked up a business card. They have adult chameleons in those cages. There are some real cool looking guys for sale. We passed them on the way up and saw the cage on their trailor and wondered if they were headed to the Dixie Reptile Show today. Ten minutes after we'd been there, they moseyed on in. Of course, my first question was....'Were the chameleons in the cages on the freeway?' Fortunatley they were not, but it would of made for a much better story had they been!

Here's another shot taken today at the show, there was a rumored Lindsay Lohan sighting at one point, I thought the lady looked more like Megan Fox...either way, yet one more reason to come by the show every month.

Frank from http://www.coldblooded-novelties.com/ standing at Justin Mcbreyers table. They kind of have a Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader thing going, Frank specializes in racks, cages, heat tape, generally all reptile supplies, thermostats, hemostats, temp guns, plus he does rodents and some snakes. His stuff is the higherend stuff, not the cheap stuff that you wish you never bought. Justin sells a little bit of everything but has some unique king snakes, geckos, ball pythons, dwarf burmese along with some gophers and even rosy boas. Its an eclectic group but it seems like with about everything at his tables he is the only one at the show selling it. He had a San Diego Gopher for sale today and its colors and pattern looked like some one took red fabric and gold thread and embroidered gold thread into it. It was a real nice snake, something I had never seen before.

It was a fun show and we appreciated seeing everyone. You can always reach Mark@LHALegal.com

This Saturday We'll Be in Birmingham Alabama

July 24th, from 9-4pm we'll have a table at the http://www.dixiereptileshow.com/ at the Zamora Temple. Check out their website for directions and other relevant info. Below is a few pictures of some of the snakes we will have for sale at the show.

I have three stripes left, two males and one female, all three are eating frozen and thawed fuzzies.
The anery in this picture has sold, thank you J.D. The normal is a male and he prefers live pinkies but has eaten frozen pinkies....

Here's a pile of normals, there are quite a few converted to eating frozen and thawed pinkies already....
This is a nice Kenyan Sand Boa Morphs picture....with the high oranges, stripe, albino and normal, and the nice anery and snow in the back. The anery is sold, the albino I am holding back but the snow, high orange stripe and high orange normal will all be at the show on Saturday FOR SALE!!!

Here's two normal males eating frozen thawed, the male on the right has been sold. Thanks J.D.

Reduced patterned normal female eating live pinkies. She'll sit right in your hand just like she is sitting in this picture. Very docile and she'll be on our table this Saturday.

This is an anery female eating live pinkies right now. She is a very dark black with the contrasting white, she just came out of shed, you can see on her tail there is just one little piece left.

Jennifer fell in love with this little albino male, however, we can't keep them all, he is eating live pinkies...I think....I can remember most of them but not all, its a good thing it is written down on his tub. Come by and see him Saturday.

We are keeping the one on the left, the one in the middle is the same albino pictured above...however, that high contrast male eating frozen thawed pinkies, on the right is FOR SALE, we really needed to keep one from the batch because we only have one adult albino male breeder. These were the three we narrowed it down to. I don't think we could of went wrong with any of the choices. Which means the other two are for sale and will be on the table this Saturday!

All three of these albino males are for sale, and two of the three are eating frozen thawed pinkies. The one you like the best will probably be the one that eats frozen thawed, these guys convert from live pinkies to frozen pinkies so easily.

NOT FOR SALE - This is the male albino we are going to holdback.....he is smokin fire when you see him in person!

This is the only High Orange Normal I have left, it is a male eating frozen thawed pinkies!

Another picture of him

I will be bringing about 50 Kenyan Sand Boas on Saturday, this was a small sampling of what will be on the table. Please email Mark@LHALegal.com if you are looking for something specific.

Size of Feeder: Mice, Hoppers, Fuzzies and Pinkies

The life cycle of mice: Pinkie (birth-), Fuzzy (Eye's closed & 10 days-), Hopper (Eye's open and they hop,  3-8 weeks), Mouse (2 months).

A Keyan Sand Boa will take a pinkie mouse at birth.  Thereafter, a good rule of thumb for feeding is to look at the diameter of your snake and match the size of mouse to your snakes thickest part of its body. A mature female will welcome an adult mouse whereas a mature male will take fuzzies or hoppers for its entire life.  If you find your snake is 'pacing' the cage after feeding, try feeding it two or three mice of the size nearest their diameter for the next feeding. A common mistake is to feed too large of a mouse which causes additional stress on the snake and can result in regurgitation of the partially digested mouse. Feeding multiple smaller meals is a much safer and effective way to satiate your snake.

Birmingham, Alabama July 24th Dixie Reptile Show

We will be in Birmingham, Alabama this coming weekend at the Dixie Reptile Show ( http://www.dixiereptileshow.com/ ). We will have a little bit of everything this weekend, normals, anerys, albinos, snows, stripes and maybe our children (which we will be happy to negotiate terms upon).

The show moved to the Zamora Temple in Irondale off of Interstate 459 about 10 minutes East of Birmingham this past January. It used to be held at UAB in downtown Birmingham but parking was horrendous and getting in and out was a pain, coupled with the fact UAB cancelled all of their vendors for 2010, Terry Heuring found himself scrambling to find another location in a short period of time. If you haven't been to the Zamora temple or the Dixie Reptile Show since it moved, you need to check this place out. First off, it has a parking lot for a college stadium, and it is right off of 459. The Shriner's cook hamburgers and hot dogs for the show and sell snacks and drinks. The show area is bigger and brighter with windows lining the long wall. Its a safer location and everything is clean, namely the bathrooms. There is always a large number of vendors with a wide variety of reptiles, arachnids, amphibians, racks, aquariums, reptile supplies and Kenyan Sand Boas! Its a solid show centrally located in Birmingham, Alabama. We'd love to see you come out.

I have some cool, unique morphs, for sale right now if interested email Mark@LHALegal.com
